View fullsize It’s with great sadness that we bring Canine Counsellor to a grinding halt until further notice due to the latest alert level update regarding COVID-19. As our in person private training, group classes and pack days are not essential services we will be stopping these immediately to prevent unnecessary contact and keep our entire Canine Counsellor family safe. After the last year we’ve had with Brittany’s health, Warwick’s accident, Matos’ accident and now closing for the duration of COVID-19 we are in an uncomfortably tight place financially and have decided to add in Zoom and FaceTime calls to still be able to offer our assessments and consults to help bridge the gap and assist owners from afar! These are only $45 per hour for the duration of COVID-19. We will keep you all up to date as this progresses and becomes more clear as to when our services will be able to return back to normal. Funny enough we do not need to see 👀 most cases in person to be able to help guide you via video calls! Having literally seen and worked with thousands of behavioural and psychology cases across USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand it’s very rare we come across new issues nowadays that are not derived from an unseen medical condition. However if your case is one that requires more attention (veterinary or in person) we will advise and explain why. For the most part behavioural issues typically come down to the same 5 consistent issues: 1. Lack of foundation work 2. Lack of boundaries 3. Unhealthy diet 4. Lack of daily fulfilment 5. View fullsize 💕🧘‍♂️COVID-19 UPDATE🧘💕 I think it’s safe to say this is a first for most, if not all of us. And as scary as this is, it’s a crucial time to keep our wits about ourselves. Social distancing could literally save someone’s life as this progresses so we thought we would help empower owners to safely fulfil their dogs through the following tips. 1. Since COVID-19 is transferred in respiratory droplets via the air (when within about 6 feet) and surfaces (like all flu’s) it is extremely important that you and your pup practice social distancing with others when out. 2. Practice that “mundane” foundation work we skip past when we get a new dog as we have no choice currently but to practice boundaries so there literally isn’t a better time! Teach your dog to walk with you and when you come to a stop they stop, sit and wait beside or behind you until you give the command to keep walking, this will help you have better control of your dog and what it interacts with while also developing impulse control 👌🏼 3. Ask others to withhold their pats 🙅‍♀️ for your dog due to social distancing recommendations. This will also help you to practice their manners-teaching them to be respectful and tuned into you around distractions, reduce social pressures and anxiety through shaping healthy calm behaviours and build their confidence by advocating for, guiding and shaping them into a stable dog. 💥💯 4. To mix it up with an off lead reward, visit one of the very many beautiful 🌲local tracks (since non-essential travel is advised against) that we are incredibly blessed to be surrounded by. 💗 ————————————————— To continue helping owners get on top of their dogs behaviour while facing the stresses of COVID-19 we’ve decided to halve our training prices and add in phone and Skype consults to bridge the gap over the next month. View fullsize A new year means new classes from Canine Counsellor! We’re offering three levels of classes this year - Essentials, Masters and Real World. Essentials covers the basics needed for creating a solid relationship and understanding with your dog. This sets you up for anything the world may throw at you. Masters refines the skills you’ve worked hard to solidify in Essentials. Pushing the limits of your training and using that concrete foundation to build reliable expectations between both dog and handler in different environments. Real World takes place out in public. From the hustle and bustle of the Orewa strip to the clatter of the Estuary Skate Park, you’ll be joined by others with the same goal and trainers who are able to assist you in those specific situations you’re struggling with. All classes start this Saturday (the 25th), run for 6 weeks and are $240 per round. Social Hour gives you the opportunity to socialise your dog in a healthy, calm and controlled environment. View fullsize ✨ Happy Holidays! ✨ Warwick and Brittany wanted to wish all our amazing supporters a lovely holiday break! 🎉 We hope you all get a much deserved recharge on those batteries to hit 2020 with a new pep in your step 🔋😉 We started this year with a plan to expand The Canine Counsellor, taking on and training two new staff members to be able to help us service more dogs and areas around the Coast. We were quickly knocked off this course when Brittany’s health took a turn for the worse 🏨 but have been determined to do whatever it takes to get her back on track and in this process have completely changed our lifestyles, choices, beliefs, goals and the way we perceive this beautiful world 🌏 With that in mind we’ve decided to take 2020 at a whole new pace. While our primary service has been pack days, we will be shifting our focus to training, maintaining an exclusive group of pack walking members. Training is how we got started and it’s truly where our passion lies - helping owners to learn and understand their dogs, creating and maintaining the healthy balance in their canine companions’ lives 🐶 Pack days will continue for existing pack members from Monday to Wednesday but Saturday through Wednesday will now have training times 🗓 The change to providing training on more days is a leap of faith we’re making but we know with the continued support of our amazing clients, friends and colleagues it will be a change that makes 2020 our best year yet 🎉 So please continue to let your friends know about us from new puppies to wildly out of control dogs, there’s no dog we haven’t been able to help yet!
